Mark L. Sherman
Tree Of Life
Memorial to my brother Robert R. Sherman
This quilt is a loving memorial to my brother, Robert R. Sherman. He and I were in a motocycle accicent when I was six and he was sixteeen. He lived the remainder of his life as a quadraplegic and has now gone to be with his Lord in heaven. There is a short tribute to my brother in pictures (smilebox) on the bottom of the page.
The quilt is my interpretation of a Louis Comfort Tiffany window, designed by Agnes Northrop as a memorial to her father. The original window was placed in the Reformed Church Flushing, Long Island in 1903.
The quilt is entirely made with hand dyed fabric, including the back which was custom dyed  by myself to match the front. The pieces are all turned edge machine applique. Hundreds and hundreds of painstaking hours went into the making of this quilt. All the while I kept in mind that as hard as I was working it could never come close to what my brother endured living his life in a wheelchair with no use of his hands. The quilt measures  85" X 106".
